Adventures in Veganism
I have lived my life as a meat-a-saurus. Eating burgers and steaks and barbecued chicken. I liked it, meat tastes good. I never really gave much thought to where the meat came from. I wasn’t naive. I knew that animals were bred only to be slaughtered and that they lived in cramped inhumane quarters, but like most Americans, I had a hard time connecting that with the cutlets, chops, and wings...

Today I ran for the first time in a week and a half. A cold/sinus infection had me sidelined. I did a short two mile loop around my neighborhood. It was chilly (about 30 degrees), but I felt strong and rested. I tried my minimalist shoes outside for the first time. I definitely felt muscle activity in areas I don’t normally notice. Mostly on the outside of my calves and knees. The good news...

Do You Know How Many Calories You Should Be...
After my initial weight loss, when things started to level off. I had a very hard time balancing calories in with calories out. I was exercising at such an intense level, but had left my calorie consumption where it was when I was exercising far less (due to my size). This left me in a very frustrating place. I was exercising like a crazy person, eating very carefully and not losing any weight....

The plague day 2. I have had more tea to drink in the last 24 hours than in the last year. Not feeling any better yet. But the cats cuddled with me all day, the husband brought soup for dinner and I read an entire book. So I guess being sick still has its highlights.

I was supposed to run 6 miles today. I pulled the plug after only 2. The bright sunshine was so distracting that I forgot how windy it was and neglected to wear a hat or ear band. So aching ears and a rumbling tummy :0 forced me to turn back early. 2.01 in 22:04.

Healthy Starch Alternatives
I have always craved sweet foods more than salty ones. When I began my weight loss journey it wasn’t that difficult for me to give up salty snacks like chips, movie popcorn and salted nuts. Where I ran into trouble was with heavy starches like pasta, white rice, and dinner rolls. I had to search out healthier alternatives. I have included my favorites here. They are not always easy to find...
