2 Days and Counting...
Hey, did you hear? I’m running a marathon on Sunday. I’m fully aware that it’s pretty much the only thing I talk about. Well it’s almost here and I’m feeling anxious, nervous and excited. If you live in the Twin Cities, please consider coming out to the course to support me and 11,000 other runners. You can view the course here. If you can’t make it there in...

phyllisnefler-deactivated201201 asked: Hello! In a search for other health/fitness folks, I came across your hummus post. Check out edamame hummus -- It's low cal and really delicious... Almost has a guacamole taste to it. Yum!

Tales from the Hummus Obsessed
I’ve been making homemade hummus at a slightly obsessive level lately. It tastes so good and is so simple to make that I can’t help myself. I keep rotating between three different recipes. Click here for my favorite traditional hummus recipe. I also love this recipe for black bean hummus. For something with a sweeter flavor, I also like this roasted red pepper hummus recipe. When...

Does This Marathon Make Me Look Fat?
I have to admit that when I started marathon training four months ago, I had visions of being delightfully thin on race day. Logging 35-40 miles per week and three 20 mile long runs, I assumed extra weight loss would be a given. Well, here I am a week before the big event and 10 lbs. heavier. WTH? Now granted, there was the state fair and eight days in Mexico with dessert at every meal, but I...

A Monster Playlist
When I really feel the need to punish the pavement, this is the playlist that I listen to while running. It makes me feel like a monster and helps to work out the bad juju. I am looking to add at least another hour of music to this list for my marathon. If you have any go to metal/hard rock faves, please send them my way. We Die Young-Alice in Chains Disposable Heroes-Metallica Two Weeks-All...

Child Support
Cleaning Guy at Work: I’m done for the day. Me: Ok, have a nice Sunday afternoon. CG: I have to go work at another store for the rest of the day. Me: oh, well then have fun working. CG: I have three sons in Indiana, one in Michigan, and one in Houston. Me: Wow they’re really spread out (thinking that they are adults). CG: That’s a lot of child support, so I have...

Black Bean Hummus →
I made black bean hummus for an after work snack today. Yummy and simple to make, it doesn’t get any better than that.

How to Run on the Beach →
I will be in Mexico for 8 days, during Week 14 of my Marathon training. I will need to log a minimum of 22 miles while there. I don’t want to spend that much time on the treadmill, so I figured I better learn how to run safely on the beach.

Fair Food
Exhibit A. Eating corn at the MN State Fair. This was a brilliant, pseudo healthy choice, sandwiched between several distinctly terrible choices. Most people will tell you that they go to the fair for the food. It’s that one special day each year when you can eat deep fried yum-nummies in large quantities without feeling guilty about it. I used to be one of those people. I would eat...
