I met Jordan after work today for 3 miles of speedwork. I needed to update the software on my Garmin, so it chose not to turn on. To my horror I had to revert to using Nike+ GPS.
1 mile warm
2 minutes hard effort, 2 minutes recovery for 1 mile
1 mile cool down.
3.4 miles in 33:46. Average pace 9:55.

We've arrived in Minneapolis.
bendoeslife:
Tour stop tonight at Lake Calhoun.
South beach area parking lots near the corner of Calhoun Parkway and Vincent Ave.
6:30 pm.
Woohoo! Pretty excited for the DoLife 5k tonight. I met a few really amazing women last year whom I still talk to on a regular basis!
thatlaurenbitch-deactivated2012 asked: hello! i know this might seem a bit too personal but i was wondering if since you lost so much weight, you ended up with a lot of loose skin? if you did, how do you deal with it? i am 18, 250, 5'7" and i have been overweight my entire life... sometimes i don't even think it's worth it to lose the weight because i am going to end up with such an uglier body than it was before...

I think you are supposed to use heat b4 the run to get the muscles ready and ice after. Could be wrong though
You should never apply heat to an inflamed area or to an acute injury. Cold therapy is the best treatment for acute injuries because it reduces swelling and pain.
Heat therapy is usually used...

I foam rolled and iced my hamstring like a champ last night and again this morning. In fact, I drove to the lake this morning with an ice pack under my thigh. I did the first 4.4 miles with Ms. Melinda. My legs felt tight, but there was no pain, so I’ll call that a success. Running a 9:30 mile felt really comfortable today.
After a coffee stop at Dunn Brothers. I drove home and decided to...

Ah yeah, negative splits baby!
I have to admit though, as my average pace is increasing, I am experiencing more pain. Right now it’s in my upper right hamstring. Today it stopped me from finishing my run. I felt a twinge and then pain down my whole leg, so walked the rest of the way home.
This happened to me last summer as well. I came out of the winter faster. My average pace was around...

Stage IV
So that’s where we’re at…
The first of 6 cycles of Chemotherapy begins tomorrow. It will takes 6 months to complete. We will have to hold on to small shreds of hope until November.
I am strong. I am putting up a brave face to the world. I have cried, but not too much. I can’t be the one to fall apart. It takes to much effort to pull yourself together again. But the word...

I met Jordan today at the river for what I thought was going to be an easy little 3 mile run. Turns out somebody still had an upset tummy from yesterday :0 It also didn’t help that it was humid, very windy, and 89 degrees.
We ran 2.2 miles and then had to give into Jordan’s tummy rumbles and walk the last .9. I can’t say I was all that upset, it was really hot and I was...

I rode 20 miles on my bike trainer today. I’m trying not to think about the things I learned at the oncologist’s this morning.
Some things you just can’t unlearn.
Let’s end cancer. I don’t want anyone else to have to feel like this, ever again.

I had three miles that I needed to make up from earlier in the week. So I went out for a nice, slow recovery run. My hamstrings are feeling pretty tender, but this seemed to loosen them up a bit.
32 miles in the books for this week. I’m looking forward to a rest day tomorrow. But of course, as you all know, that means I’ll probably ride my bike.
Holy hills, batman! Prepping for...

Cancer Fighting Foods →
The National Cancer Institute estimates that roughly one-third of all cancer deaths may be diet related. What you eat can hurt you, but it can also help you. Many of the common foods found in grocery stores or organic markets contain cancer-fighting properties, from the antioxidants that neutralize the damage caused by free radicals to the powerful phytochemicals that scientists are just...

I am feeling terribly insecure today.
Shockingly not about my physical appearance, but about my powers of influence.
I get these big ideas. Things I want to do. Things I want to achieve. Many times these ideas revolve around other people getting involved. I have started to come to the painful realization that my passion isn’t contagious. The people in my life aren’t invested enough...

Crack of Dawn
I met Jordan at 6:30am this morning to run the chain of lakes. It may be the earliest she’s been up, ever! We weren’t very talkative the first few miles. She was still half asleep and I hadn’t had my coffee, so we were a chipper pair for sure. The high today is supposed to be around 90 degrees, so it was smart to get out there early. When we started, it was around 67 degrees,...

You guys are the best!
I would repost all of your awesome comments. But I don’t want to give that anon anymore space on my blog.

Like A Boss
Hmmmm….I think I channeled the rage in that one.
You know the anger that dwells way down in there that you hardly ever let out? That’s the shit the beast feeds on. And it’s good. Very, very good.
I wasn’t sure what would happen when cancer entered the equation. Surprisingly it has created more focus, more determination, more drive to excel at the things I can control....

Second run of the day, was a 3.47 mile hill workout with Melinda. I took a long enough break between my workouts for my legs to get a little tight. I was definitely feeling it on the uphill portions. We still managed to maintain a pretty good pace throughout. This was great practice for Ragnar.
